First grade has been working hard at developing Vocal Awareness and Pitch Matching this quarter. Many songs and activities have focused on using Kodaly Hand Signs and Solfeggio. One favorite activity was "Blue Bird, Blue Bird."
Blue Bird, Blue Bird
Through My Window
Blue Bird, Blue Bird
Through My Window
Blue Bird, Blue Bird
Through My Window
Blue Bird Aren't You Tired
Takes Them Self A Partner
And Taps Them On The Shoulder
Takes Them Self A Partner
And Taps Them On The Shoulder
Takes Them Self A Partner
And Taps Them On The Shoulder
Blue Bird Aren't You Tired
Studnets first practiced singing the song as a group and played a variety of movement games where one student was the bird, and had to weave in-and-out of a circle of students. Students then got partners and were given a wood frame which one student held while the other attempted to toss a bird (scarf) through the "window" without letting it hit the ground. Students needed to problem solve way to hold their frame and ways to toss to be successful.
